Spring was a record dry one, and autumn has had 50% less of the expected rainfall, this has resulted in some reservoirs being only half full and many farmers have had poor harvests. At the end of the article below DEFRA state "Many British farmers are facing difficulties due to the dry conditions and it is important that they can find ways to become more resilient in the long term," a spokesman said.
"While droughts are not new, we may face a future with less rainfall and less certainty about when that rain will fall. Next month we will set out our plans to ensure there are secure water resources in the future."

The UK population has increased by 3 million in 10 years thanks to mass immigration, and is predicted to grow by another 10 million by the 2020's. Currently the UK population is growing by the size of a city the size of Leeds EVERY YEAR. So, if you're wondering why reservoirs are emptying a lot faster than they used to, there is your answer!
